Newsletter - March 2010

Dear Patients and friends,

Spring, Oh boy! What a lot of mischief it is this year. The trees and flowers are way ahead of their spring chores this year, fooling us into prematurely stripping our winter woolies and cordially inviting allergies, spring colds, bronchitis and the like. The Oscars with its usual sleek bodies, brought on thoughts of detoxing to dispose of surfeit poundage, while contenders successful enough to have ulcerative colitis will look to deal with that. I’m looking forward to seeing you and being useful.

March dates in Culver City are from Thursday the 18th through Wednesday, the 24th.

April Dates in Culver City will be Friday 23rd through Wednesday 28th. We’ll be having that postponed workshop on Sunday the 21st and we hope you can make it, as we’ve been having a lot of fun with them. The focus will be on the heart and the muscle testing will be for supplements and foods appreciated by this generous organ. These in turn will improve the functions of the circulatory system, which include high blood pressure, low blood pressure and cholesterol. We’ll also begin to delve into some of the above spring issues and continue them in April, Sunday 25th.

Joey will be working with us again and will bring some new muscle testing and balancing info after the completion of his first diploma course in “Touch for Health” (muscle testing). Some of it is pretty wild, including some trigger points to temporarily help ease the heart and calm blood pressure and anxiety. Though the heart is a compassionate organ, it is wise not to mess with it unless we want the cardiologist to perform that little feat known in Victorian novels as “looking grave.” We’ll also go over the heart’s partner, the small intestine, which will get us back into some digestive areas but from a different angle than in a prior workshop. Help to one of these partners, will often aid the other.

Eleven people is our limit again as the workshop is being held at our smallish Culver City office. It is $19 as before, so if you would please cover that with your space reservation, it would be appreciated.

Our new website finally works. Things you click on actually take you where you want to go. Brilliant!!! I still have some updating to do, but that’s a work in progress. You can now click on evesherbs.com or evesherbs.net.

CASE HISTORIES: Having mentioned ulcerative colitis, I just had a follow up phone consult with a young woman suffering from this totally debilitating condition. She would wake every two hours due to the bleeding. Bowel movements were extremely painful, bloody diarrhea, and she had headaches with intense sweats. She was hospitalized and given high doses of prednisone to stabilize her condition, but then the colonoscopy her doctor insisted on made it much worse.

We put together a strict diet for now, and she has started on our slippery elm to begin soothing the colon, the detox powder to absorb the diarrhea and form a gentle bulk, the bactotox to clean the inflammation, the cramp bark to relax the spasms with the D3 to further help the cramp bark and immunity. After 2 weeks there is much less blood, she has less pain, sweating and is beginning to sleep through the night. Her energy is returning and the dose of prednisone is going down. Her life is back. It will take some time and patience but is well worth it. I will continue to update her condition in the newsletters.

The Peeper Keeper formula received another nice little pat on it’s lid from a patient who reorders it for what her opthamologist diagnosed as increased pressure in her left eye bordering on glaucoma. She hadn’t been able to focus with that eye due to continual blurring but since taking the P.K. formula is having continual improvement. She also orders a few other formulas for blood pressure, lungs and bones, which I expect support the P.K. formula in its work.

Our trusty Kleanz formula for digestion and constipation and the TQH and EV for adrenal exhaustion elicited a re-order from a returning patient living in Arizona with a note saying: “Thanks Eve and staff! Your herbs are the only thing that work for me! Yay!” By golly, it makes it all worth while.

THANK YOU to the following people for referring others for help with their health: Diane Butman, Martha Ferguson, Lili Hunt, Joyce Kalil, Benita Karroll, Erin Lacy, Philip Littell, Jane Rogers and Lisa Urich.

Newsletter - February 2010

Dear patients and friends,

I’m very much looking forward to seeing you in LA somewhere during my weeks’s stay beginning February 11.th

We’ve been having a lot of fun with our Sunday mini-workshops and we’ll be at it once again this February 14th . The focus will be on the heart and this time the muscle testing will be for supplements and foods appreciated by this generous organ. These in turn will improve the functions of the circulatory system, which include high blood pressure, low blood pressure and cholesterol.

Joey will be working with us again and will bring some new muscle testing and balancing info after the completion of his first diploma course in “Touch for Health” (muscle testing). Some of it is pretty wild, including some trigger points to temporarily help ease the heart and calm blood pressure. The heart certainly is a compassionate organ, but it is wise not to mess with it unless we want the cardiologist to perform that little feat known in Victorian novels as “looking grave.”

We’ll also go over the heart’s partner, the smalll intestine, which will get us back into some digestive areas but from a different angle than in a prior workshop. This information will inspire us to think before sitting down at the table and starting the campaign against starvation.

Eleven people is our limit again as the workshop is being held at our smallish Culver City office. It is $19 as before, so if you would please cover that with your space reservation, it would be appreciated. Oh, and do keep in mind that that is Valentine’s day, which may actually be a plus, as it may put you in more of a mood to be swept off, or sweep yourself off, your feet.

Time is from 2.00-4.00 as per the usual and the usual number is 310-855-1111.

Garlic and other herbs for your immune system,
as well as for the organs listed above, will never be a wasted inclusion in your food. One of the ways we eat a lot of it is by making an olive tepanade which is delicious with rye toast or rice crackers. Just toss a can of drained black olives into your chopper. Add ¼ cup of olive oil and 4-6 cloves of garlic. Adding parsley to make it easier on the nose is optional. Chop and serve and voila!! I usually double the amount as it lasts in the refrigerator for a week.. Being a lazy cook and all. Of course keeping the Bactotox, Pneu, AHCC and Flu plus or Gripp-heel in your medicine chest is a given. I feel fortunate to hear stories of “I used to get so sick several times each winter for years. Not since I’ve taken these herbs.”

The following are two brand new testimonials for some better and some lesser known very old health problems: The first is by a young, handsome man preparing to marry and start a family:

"A few years ago I developed a horrible pilonidal cyst seemingly out of nowhere. I endured surgery, infections, multiple visits to surgeons who all wanted to do terrible things to eradicate the problem when the initial surgery failed. Now, admittedly I am a huge skeptic when it comes to things like herbs, holistic medicine... but after being in pain & discomfort for so long, my wife finally convinced me to see Eve, who explained to me that my problem was an underlying infection in my body that rooted itself in that area. She convinced me to drastically change my diet, take the "pilonidal cyst" herb regimine & within a few months the problem virtually disappeared. It has now been a year and although my diet has reverted back to some dairy & my herb intake has decreased, I credit Eve with literally saving my ass. As far as I am concerned, she is a miracle worker & in my case, a life saver. I am now sitting normally again with no problems & have my life back." -J. from LA

This next one is from a statement during a phone consult last week:

D from Massachusets had tried it all. The medical route, acupuncture and any well meant advice that came along. Then she used my “High Blood Pressure Therapy Pack” and my “Anxiety Therapy Pack” from our website for three months and said: “Your herbs ultimately regulated my blood pressure”. These therapy packs include Vervain, MNF, EV, and the F Formula.. Her feelings of anxiety are now also rare.

The third is an ode to our Joy formula. My patient and friend called for an appointment and to say “There’s been a miracle. I’ve been 5 years on Lexapro and I’m off it. It took one month. Only 1 month. I’ve tried on and off for years and could never do it. It was too horrible.” Admittedly we also worked on hormonal balance with the TQH and thyroidinum, which I’m sure helped as well. What a nice start to 2010.

David is much better. Minus 1 kidney, an aneurism and a football sized haematoma, he is back to LA this first week in February. We love our herbs for prevention and chronic diseases, but when it comes to a major trauma, God bless a good surgeon, which he fortunately had right here in Oregon. The local number in Culver City is, as always, 310-838-2527. He’s looking forward to seeing you and working again.

I thoroughly thank the following people for referring others that needed help:

Helena Apothaker, Siobhan Flynn, Sharon Lockhart, Laura London, Michael Siegman and Virginia Smith - several times.

Newsletter - January 2010

Dear patients and friends

This is a little updated holiday reminder. I will be in LA from Friday, January 8th through Thursday, January 14th. Then again from Thursday, February 11th through February 18th 2010. By then I expect we’ll all be ready to make up with our stomachs and agree to forget it ever happened. A little detoxing will enable our arteries heave a sigh of relief and start a grand 2010. DO have plenty of Herba-Kleanz on hand to clear the plumbing and the Nu-Liv to deal with the hangovers. As far as the emotional heave-ho’s of the holiday celebrations are concerned, keep in mind that there is always a certain dementia released when people of the same gene pool come together. Take a couple of caps of the Joy Formula and Vervain, a nice little bottle of red with just a hint of presumption and you’re off, a nice easy drive with all progressive ideas on acceleration forgotten.

We are having another little 2 hour workshop on Sunday the 10th of January from 2.00-4.00 p.m. The last one in October was fun and well attended and left us all wanting more. It will be on cleaning our long suffering livers, mollifying over-worked adrenal glands and nourishing the thyroid which feels put upon to take over for the adrenals. All this in turn will of course help the metabolism, the nervous system, skin and weight as well as aches and pains from painful joints. You will learn how to muscle test your family and friends for these areas and get a feel for which herbs and foods are prime for them.

Contribution will again be $19 and it will take place at the Culver City address. There will be 11of us and there are just 3 spaces left, so let me know. 310-855-1111 or be return e-mail.

Lately, life being somewhat hectic with David still recovering, I’m choosing three of the case histories that patients have generously shared with me in the last couple of weeks, as they are still fresh in my mind.

A woman who missed work for several days each month due to debilitating menstrual cramps, now claims she doesn’t even know it’s coming and is feeling better in general due to our fabulous Cramp Bark. Some people want an anti-inflammatory like AR plus with it to get rid of all pain, but not always. Cramp Bark is also a treat for us “elder folks,” especially for elder type joys like leg cramps, sciatica, and stiff necks.

A fun report was from an “elder” saying the combination of the Goat Weed (horny goat weed) and the O/N Formula is “great stuff, I can’t believe it really works.” Of course it is for the libido - a good indoor sport especially for this time of the year. As a nice side effect this combination is also a kidney and hormonal tonic.

A woman’s nasty dose of Positional Vertigo or vestibular labyrinthitis - or lets just say - dizzyness, disappeared very quickly after beginning the herbs. It was particularly bad when lying or looking down or in particular directions. She had spent months visiting specialists. We chose the Allertotal to deal with some specific allergies we figured out she had, the Ps:HW to clear possible yeast or other parasitic infection in her system and the Joy Formula for the attendant anxiety. She just told David that the herbs only took 2 weeks to work.

FYI, the website is being redone, as I’ve had a lot of complaints about the therapy packs being difficult to order or the site itself generally recalling dinosaur status. While that’s being done, please do call the toll-free number of 310-855-1111 to place your orders, or e-mail them to me at

doctoreve@evesherbs.com. To make up for the inconvenience, I’m offering 5 minute consults free, ½ hour consults are $45 and new patient 1 hour consults are $90 while I’m in Ashland. “Such a deal!” they cried.

I look forward to seeing you in the New Year, which I know will be a good one for you and me and our good health. Joey will not be available in Culver City between Christmas and New Year 2009. So PLEASE order your herbs now to last through January 2nd.

Best as always to you and yours, keep the Vervain or Calm Spirit handy for the holiday get-togethers along with the Kleanz Formula to keep the nerves calm and the plumbing moving, Cheery HoHo,

Doctor Eve

Newsletter - December 2009

Dear patients and friends

I will be in LA from 26th November through the 2nd December, and then return on Friday January 8th through Thursday, January 14th. By then I expect, we’ll all be ready to do a little holiday clean -up with a great sigh of relief. Remember, that if you are feeling like a particularly magnificent specimen of a wreck after holiday celebrations to have plenty of Herba-Kleanz on hand to clear the plumbing and the Nu-Liv to deal with the hangovers.

Also to that effect, I will offer another little 2 hour workshop on Sunday the 10th of January from 2.00-4.00 p.m. The last one in October was fun and well attended with the want of more. It will be on cleaning our long suffering livers, mollifying over worked adrenal glands and nourishing the thyroid which feels put upon to take over for the adrenals. You will learn how to muscle test your family and friends for these areas and get a feel for which herbs and foods are prime for them.

Contribution will, again, be $19 and take place at the Culver City address. There is a limit of 11 people so book your space asap.

Newsletter - October 2009

Dear patients and friends,

I hope you are enjoying the autumn as am I. It is beautiful up here in Ashland, but I'm looking forward to my time in L.A. which is coming right up. I fly in Friday, October 23rd and Saturday the 24th is already booked up. But if you need that day, DO check in for rescheduled openings, as they do happen. I'll be staying through Saturday, October 31st with openings available during that week.

Since this is a very short newsletter indeed, I'd just like to share with you some patient comments, regarding the herbs, from when I was last in town. A woman who had lost 30 lbs. during the last three months we have worked together, felt sure that the GB formula (fat processor) and the Bactotox played the leading role in her progress. She felt energized, which will happen when the gallbladder and digestion gets back to work and the unfriendly bacteria are shown the (back) door. The combination all but eliminated her junk food cravings - though I suspect that balancing her blood sugar with the Pan D2 and soothing her wild-with-exhaustion adrenal glands with the TQH herbs played the role of the "I could never have done it without you" acceptance speech.

The other good reminder was a patient who said that since she started the Devil's Claw (anti-inflammatory), she had no more low back pain - one of my own bug-a-boos. I tried it recently, and it made quite a difference after a stiffish work-out. For some people, especially those with arthritis, or any of the "itises", it works best as part of the AR Plus formula.

Anyway, rummage around for your Pan D-2 and/or Patic Fe, Sugar Free or Gymnemma, as Halloween is coming up - not to mention Thanksgiving - and have fun.

Can't wait to see you,

Eve

P.S. To set appointments for that week now, call 310-855-1111. Between 10/23 and 10/31, call the local Culver City number at: 310-838-2527, if you need that day.

P.P.S. A DO-IT-YOURSELF REFLEX TESTING WORK SHOP TO TEST YOUR OWN FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

You’ll learn by hands-on how to check

1.the pancreas reflex for blood sugar ups and downs

2. The lungs for any mucous/congestion etc. colds, sinusitis etc.

3. The stomach for any digestive issues, bloating gas constipation etc.

Where: It will be at 4255 Baldwin Ave in Culver City. The limit is 11 people, so book it now with a $19 contribution per person.

When: Sunday, Oct. 25 from 2-4 p.m.

NUTRITION, HERB, HOMEOPATHY AND CLINICAL HYPNOTHERAPY NEWS
A  QUARTERLY NEWSLETTER  FOR DR. EVE’S CLIENTS AND REFFERALS
________________________________________________________________________

Survival techniques for hurling ourselves
into the fray of the Holidays – Part 1

This newsletter should help our bodies to postpone abandoning the unequal struggle with destiny and gravity, and to help keep our waistline, health and sanity, which are always under attack between Halloween and New Year’s Day from the bushels of sugar thrust at us by loving family, friends and co-workers.  In preparation, I have put together another pancreas-coddling formula to cope with the onslaught (see “Sugar Free” below).

Our updated Web Site (EvesHerbs.com) and Newsletters

Sending our newsletter to a friend is easy now.  Current and back issues have been updated on our overhauled web site. Just go to EvesHerbs.com and click on Newsletters.  You may help someone in need.  It’s easy now to click on any health challenge topic of interest and receive some instant information on nutrition, Therapy Packs and case histories.  These are often convenient for long distance patients with or without consultations.

Our NEW sugar balance formula – “SUGAR FREE”

This new formula is an alternative to the straight Gymnemma as a single herb, to help us snicker at the sugar cravings and drop a few pounds as well.  This formula contains Gymnemma, American Ginseng and Cinnamon.

Gymnemma many of you already know about.  It is so supportive to the pancreas that in Europe it is used for diabetesAmerican Ginseng is back in the news for diabetics as well as prediabetics.  Recent studies at the University of Toronto highlighted the herb’s ability to regulate blood sugar surges after meals, notably in type II diabetics.

There is mounting evidence to suggest that American Ginseng improves diabetes control, reducing associated risk factors such as hyperlipidemia (excess fat in the blood - another holiday abundance) and hypertension.  One of the main reasons I like using ginseng, as in my 50/50 formula for the adrenals, for instance, is that all ginsengs are adaptogens; i.e., they help the body adjust to new circumstances and unusual stresses, very common during the holidays.  Its reputation as an anti-aging herb that improves sexual function is primarily due to the fact that its long-term use improves overall health, and that, as you can imagine, is likely to restore sexual interest.  But watch out, it is also known to increase sperm production and motility.  Wanted pregnancies have occurred even sooner than expected.

Cinnamon is an ancient “new” discovery.  It is now understood that regularly ingesting this spice not only helps to harmonize blood sugar, but can also regulate cholesterol and fat levels.

The Sugar Fix – from the pancreas’ point of view

“Sorry, but I needed to get your attention, so I had to get to you where you’d inevitably notice – looking in the mirror.  You look about as cheery as a Russian novel and your mood swings are positively dizzying.  Also, perhaps you’ve not really minded ‘maturing,’ but lately the process seems rather over zealous.  You feel a tad queasy and your middle seems to be bloating up overnight.  Your energy fluctuates between racing around like a scalded cat and passing out on the sofa, and these energy shifts are happening more frequently.

“You see, during your healthy jags, when you quit bombarding me with what is loosely considered to be food, my insulin facilitates the transfer of blood sugar into your liver, muscle and fat cells.  Among America’s 18 million type 2 diabetes sufferers, however, these insulin signals become blocked, preventing glucose from entering cells and causing it to back up in the bloodstream.  This “insulin resistance” can ultimately set off a dangerous chain reaction, wherein I, at first, have to overproduce, then under produce insulin in an attempt to counteract the glucose imbalance.  Frankly, I’m beat.  A break is in order.  You don’t have to be a monument to culinary denial, but eat some vegetables, dang it! Eat some fish! Eat some clean proteins!! Quit with the sugar or I quit – really you don’t want that.  If I do, you’ll have yeast and skin rashes all over the place not to mention needing insulin pills and shots, which, trust me, you won’t like, not to mention a body that becomes more and more difficult to propel.

“Start with the herbs you just read about, they’ll help with the cravings, and then take a look at the Hypoglycemia, Diabetes and the Pancreas diet in ‘Feeling very much Better.’  And so you will – feel much better that is - I love you too.”

A week’s fall vacation for the Campanellis

We will be out of town for a week in mid-October, but Gabriela or Philip will be here to take and send orders and make appointments.

Getting off MEDS --- some inspirational case histories

L. F. came in because she was lowering her Cymbalta. One of the side effects is a terrifying anxiety, rapid pulse, a nervous system out of control and a libido that had resolutely left home.  She knew about yoga, deep breathing and positive visualization.  None of these were to any avail since it’s the autonomic nervous system, the one we have no conscious control over, that’s in charge of these symptoms.  No matter how much we invite the nervous system to calm down during these kinds of withdrawals, it just ignores the invitation.  We used herbal formulas to help the nervous system, her stress response and sleeping patterns.  She’s doing fine, especially for a “devout skeptic.”  Her symptoms improved 25% after a week, and her libido came back.  Her husband owes me….

R.L. on his first visit to me had been taken off Ambien for 10 days.  He was experiencing panic attacks, even though he only ever took  “a tiny bit”, which, by the way, is not unusual.  He perspired a lot and his pulse was high.  His little cough, which he had endured most of his life, was more annoying.  He was traveling a lot for his work and was having trouble dealing with any stress.  I used the S Formula for his stress management, and the Sleeper Formula at night and, if necessary, a little during the day if he felt his pulse going up again.  He definitely had a blood sugar imbalance, as was clear from occasional dizziness and disorientation, for which we used the Gymnemma.  We used the Allertotal and Bactotox for his cough.  After two weeks, he said he was “just getting better.”  He suffered no more panic attacks, loved the Sleeper Formula and felt more even in his blood sugar response with no dizziness.  A month later, the last time I saw him, he said everything was better.  No panic attacks, no cough after years of it, and a calm nervous system.  We’ve started lowering the herb doses.  He just orders the herbs now, and in a few months will work up a maintenance nutritional herb program.  He was so happy he bought a gift certificate for someone else in need.

“Road Back” patient J. M. said, “I feel like I’ve tried everything and was going broke doing it.  A complete waste.” You see, one of the nice things about using herbs to cleanse the poisons out of the body is that their detoxification work is gentle, but firm.  While withdrawing, most days are a steady improvement.  Then, occasionally, there are a few hours or a day where the liver feels it is ready for a somewhat bigger heave-ho, which is uncomfortable and can be frustrating.  This, however, becomes more rare and short-lived and we can move on and feel good.

Case Histories

Sleeping on a jet plane – V.F.B., a very frequent flier, swears by the Sleeper Formula.  “I just take 4 at once, and an hour after takeoff, I’m out – with no hangover when I arrive.  I love it.”

S.W. thought it would take a while to get pregnant and was pleasantly surprised when no time was wasted.  Happy congratulations are due.  Her husband loves the Goat Weed Formula and Bilica, and feels they are the reason he ran a marathon in his best time ever.  Her mother’s insomnia was resolved with the MNF and Sleeper Formula.  She had been taking Ambien, an addictive sleep drug.

A.P., a 20-year-old student orthobionomist, had been diagnosed with interstitial cystitis in June 2007.  She had been having chronic urinary tract infections and one kidney infection in September 2006.  She still went to classes but her pain made it hard to concentrate and her energy was low.  She had no sex drive and felt “weird and emotional.”  She had been treated with Heparin catheter injections and amitriptyline (an antidepressant), which made her hallucinate.   She stopped that, but, because of continued pain, she was still on Ultram, an opiate painkiller to which she was addicted.  She had frequent bouts of vomiting linked to anxiety, her gums bled and she had migraines.  She had trouble swallowing and severe menstrual and ovulation cramps.  There were also two yeast infections and rectal itching.

She started with the Blend R:I, Bilica, ACP and Gentian Root and I didn’t see her for a month.  She felt sufficiently improved to stop taking the Ultram.  Her anxiety from it and her pain were all but gone.  Her energy was improving and the rest of her symptoms were heading that way, though not entirely resolved.  She expects this will happen when she has a kitchen and can start eating real food again.  Her mom was thrilled, when she came in for herself recently, that her daughter was off the drugs.

Just a little aside for those who have asked:
